Brief History: Kite didn't start training Pokemon until he was nearly 15 years old because his parents forbade it, deeming Pokemon training too dangerous. So when his best friend, Sam, left out on her journey when she was 10, Kite stayed at home and went to school.
Several years later Sam returned from her journey with a full team of powerful Pokemon and one egg. She left the egg in Kite's care, making him swear that when it hatched he would start out on his journey. And so, a couple of weeks went by (in which Kite was trying to hide the egg) and when the egg finally hatched out popped a little female Chimchar.
Something in the little Pokemon sparked a fire in Kite, and the next day he told his parents he was going to travel Sinnoh. As he expected, they did not approve, and told him that if he left the house with the Chimchar that they would disown him.
Kite took the chance and left with his little Pokemon, which he had lovingly named 'Eri'. Kite and Eri traveled around Sinnoh for a couple years, meeting several team members and friends.
Eventually he met up with Sam - who had beaten the Sinnoh League champion at this point - and the two took a cruise ship to Hoenn. On the ship they met Suna. Little did either of them know that Suna would become such a good friend to them. Especially after the...incident.
{The 'incident' is basically...Suna, Sam and Kite got thrown overboard during a storm and their teams were unable to save them, and so they were presumed dead. However, a passing Manaphy found them just as they were passing out and rescued them with the help of Mew, who transformed them into Pokemon. They then had to deal with (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon-ey plot here that is waaay too long to shove onto this profile) and eventually got re-transformed back into humans and met up with their respective teams, all three retaining the ability to speak to Pokemon.
Kite eventually traveled on after being gifted another egg from Suna - the egg that hatched into Kayna.
Kite now resides in Hoenn with Sam, learning from the skilled breeders in Verdanturf Town.

The Team:
Meganium - Kayna - Female
Because Kite raised Kayna from an egg, the two have a very deep connection. Kayna was spoiled rotten as a Chikorita and Bayleaf, and upon evolving into a Meganium she became much more loving and motherly towards Kite. Nowadays she travels around with Kite and see the sights of the world.

Luxray - Hoshi - Male
Hoshi was the first Pokemon that Kite actually caught. Hoshi is a very young Luxray, and so has a smaller mane and stature to an average Luxray. His older brother - a much stronger Luxray - is the Pokemon of Sam - Kite's childhood friend. Hoshi is sweet and loving and enjoys a good scratch behind the ears(and head, and belly, and back, and chin, and....well...just pet him and he'll love you.)

The Pet:
Gastly - Jasmine "Jazz" - Female
Jasmine is....interesting. She prefers the company of computers and games. Particularly 'Globe of Gore' - or GoG. A game that she takes way too seriously and spends a disturbing amount of Kite's hard-earned money on. (He actually threatened to cancel her subscription, but apparently the threats were too convincing and he has never made that thread again.) Jazz has a few anger issues as well, calling people who act stupid 'Leroy' a lot of times, and just generally being a twit to most people. She does like Kite, though despite their disagreements. She and Horace (Suna's Gengar) are related. Her father moved to Johto - where Kite met her - from Lavender Town's Ghost Tower.
